I'm thinking about doing the Home on the Range ride in Othello, WA on the weekend of April 4th. We've got three tests the week before and only one the week after, so if I plan right, I think I'd be able to do it. It's only a couple hours drive from here, so it would be convenient. And Kristen said she'd like to come with, so I'd have a built-in crew! Yes!

In other news, I'm still worried about Jasper's weight. He was put out in a pasture with two other horses on Sunday, and I think they probably kept him from eating again. Sigh. So yesterday I moved him into a stall at the barn and opened a half-bale of the hay I bought and parked him in front of it. My plan is to leave him in the stall for the rest of the month and hopefully get some fat on his skinny bones. I'm going to have to play the balance between starting his conditioning for the April ride and keeping him fat enough to be able to do the April ride!
I ordered my Renegades this weekend, too! I ordered them in Dragon Fire red with black heel captivators, which I think will be a better way to balance all the red I already have on my tack. I thought about doing it opposite, but worried too much I wouldn't be able to see them as well if one came off.

Congrats on the trailer! Hey, I did the whole 8 week long 2001 XP in a 2 horse gooseneck with homemade LQ - 5' shortwall - trailer was 16' in the belly. Hubby, myself, 2 dogs and 2 horses lived out of that trailer for 9 weeks. You just got to get real good at organization! :)
Nice choice on the boot color! If you get them adjusted right they won't come off so you won't have to search for them on the trail. Just use two of the rubber O-rings at the end of your velcro for endurance rides, and carry zip-ties with you in case the velcro gets wet you can anchor it down and hold it in place until the ride is over.
me again - on the trailer winterizing - it's no big deal. I winterize my trailer after every single trip half of the year. It only takes about 5 to 10 minutes each time so don't let it scare you from doing it for this weekend! Look up on the internet to find dump stations on that you might be able to use on the trip home. Then, when you stop to dump open up all of your drains and faucets (and the switch on the hot water tank) and let everything drain while you drive home. Pick up a gallon of antifreeze and pour some in your drains. If you remember, you can also run a bit of it through your water pump before you drain everything - then be sure to rinse it through good before the next fill-up.
Thanks, Karen! You always have good advice!
I know NOTHING about LQ Trailer keeping--I just know that friends of ours make it seem like the trailer has been saran wrapped once it's been winterized. I'm glad to know it's not so final! Maybe we will camp in the trailer in the arena after all!
I'll post pics once I get my new boots!
