Ony's Fourth Birthday

Onyx turned four last Tuesday, and to celebrate, we took he and Jasper out to where Wayne boards his horse for a family trail ride. It ended up being an interesting ride.

Good things:
1. No one was hurt.
2. We didn't see any snakes.
3. I ended up not leaving both boys in the desert to fend for themselves.

Bad things:
1. Onyx is a PITA to pony when he's not getting his butt worked (ie Moscow Mountain)
2. Carrying a whip to discipline Jasper or Onyx is great, but growing a third arm to actually use it is nearly impossible while playing referee between two horses with reins and a lead rope.
3. Jasper can only take so much of "I'm Not Touching You" from Onyx before he starts to get grouchy
4. Onyx can not be let off lead to fend for himself, as he lags behind (eating) and then gallops up as fast as he can, head tossing and pogo-sticking and otherwise trying to make the other two horses take off at a gallop

It was an OK ride. I did eventually decide I'd had enough and got off to walk the boys back to the ranch. Jasper (and I) had reached our limit with little Onyx and it was starting to get dangerous. I thought for sure since he hadn't been out doing anything for a while that he'd get sick of being the pesky little brother. I was wrong.
