Winter Rides

This past Sunday, Amanda and I agreed to meet for a snowy winter ride. I like winter riding, but for much different reasons than I like summer riding. In winter, you get to kick back and relax and enjoy the scenery. There's no agenda, no training plan, no mileage, just plain old simple riding for the fun of it. It was really nice to get out and enjoy the pleasure of Jasper's company (and Amanda and Replika's too, of course).

Jasper hadn't been out since our 75 mile completion at the end of October. He really seemed to enjoy himself, and would sulk every time we turned back for the barn. Suddenly he couldn't manage more than a slow, plodding walk. As soon as we'd divert onto another trail facing away, his ears would prick forward and he turned into a power-walking fool again. It's nice that Jasper wanted to GO, even if he was relegated to a booring walk. I like that I can pull Jasper out of the field after being virtually ignored for almost a month and he behaves himself. It's a nice change.

OK you two are making me feel very guilty! I have yet to go out in the snow. And now all we have is mud and rain. But I'm ready to ride in the snow now! So snow already!

I went for a snowy ride after a big storm here...on Sissy who is currently 8 months pregnant! Well, it was sort of an afterthought, so I was riding on a very prego mare, bareback with a halter. She was great, except the bad storm had blown trees accross our usual trail, and whil I may have tried it with Dreamer and Rocky, I wasn't about to with Sis...and I haven't been riding since...I think I've died and gone to hell :(
